The third volume of A Political History of Ukraine: The 20th Century covers the period from 1921 to 1938. The consequences of the seventeen-year interwar period proved to be no less tragic for the Ukrainian people than the preceding age of revolutions and wars: two famines, almost uninterrupted mass repressions peaking in the years 1933 and 1937, the deportations of tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens by social and national markers. The creation of the Soviet socio-economic order as the foundation of the totalitarian political regime took place under conditions of mass political terror. At the same time substantial successes were achieved in the modernization of agriculture and the development of culture.

This book is intended for specialists, lectures, students, and the general reader who is interested in the history of Ukraine.
