Yurii Oleksiyovych Nikolaets

Head of the Department of Political Culture and Ideology, Doctor of History, Professor.

Born on 15 March 1973 in Dymer, Vyshhorod district, Kyiv region.

In 1995, he graduated with honours from the History Department of the Vinnytsia State Pedagogical Institute named after M. Kotsiubynskoho. He studied for postgraduate and doctoral studies at the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University. Candidate of Historical Sciences (1999), Doctor of Historical Sciences (2009), Associate Professor (2004), Professor (2014).

He taught at the Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University named after M. Kotsiubynskoho, the Vinnytsia Institute of Regional Economics and Management, and the Vinnytsia State Agrarian University.

He has been working at the I.F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine since 2009 as a Senior Researcher. Since February 2023, he has been Acting Head of the Department, and since December 2023, he has become the Head of the Department of Political Culture and Ideology.

Member of the Academic Council of the I.F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies.

Member of the Specialised Academic Council D 26.181.01 for the defence of dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Political Science at the I.F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Member of the Specialised Academic Council D 26.235.01 01 for the defence of dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

He participated in more than 150 national and international scientific and practical conferences. He supervised the preparation of PhD theses. He acted as an official opponent during the defence of 44 dissertations submitted for the degree of Historical Sciences Candidate or Doctor, reviewer of the scientific professional publication – the journal “Political Studies”.

Research interests: historiography, historical politics, media development, history of wars and armed conflicts.
