The analytical report, prepared by the results of scientific and research work “The political aspects of the crisis in Donbass: status and directions diagnostics of the settlement” which was performed at I.F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2015.

Using a large number of domestic and foreign sources, the researchers revealed the main stages of formation of the government and opposition in Ukraine, determined the EU course of our states. Along with the analysis of political processes in Ukraine the authors of the monograph analyse the relationship between power and opposition in Russia, Belarus, Moldova other CIS countries and the Baltic States, East and West Europe. The challenges facing the contemporary Ukrainian authorities are analysed in the epilogue. This book is intended for researchers, social scientists, students and all who are interested in political problems of modern Ukraine.

The monograph is dedicated to the conceptualizing the concept and revealing the phenomenon of the national and state self-determination of Ukraine as integral, dynamic socio-political phenomenon, that changes and reveals under the influence of external and internal factors of state and political, socio-economic, national and cultural content. The domestic and foreign factors which influence the process of national and state self-determination, since the epoch of Perestroika in the USSR up to the present time, are analysed. The current trends in the social and political development of contemporary Ukraine are defined.

The research deals with the study of one of the most difficult phenomena – political identities in modern Ukraine. The analysis is carried out on the bases of political identities study (individual and collective) in urban community in such Ukrainian sites as Donetsk, Odessa, Poltava, Chernivtsi and Chernihiv. The analytical report was prepared by the results of the research work “Donbass in the information security system of the state: regional distinctions, external challenges, tools of struggle against anti-Ukrainian propaganda”, which was performed at the I.F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2015.
