The book contains unique diaries and memoirs of one of the most interesting Ukrainian politicians of the twentieth century, Peter Shelest, and also documents and materials about his life and work. The authors tended to create an objective view, a realistic portrait of Peter Shelest as a person and leader. The publication also contains an interview with those who had known Peter Shelest or worked with him.
This is the first in Ukraine encyclopaedia, intended to create a comprehensive and thorough presentation on the state of modern political science, its categorical apparatus, on the conventional and alternative theories and approaches. Readers have the opportunity to become acquainted with the ideas of the greatest representatives of political thought, to understand the place and role of the prominent players in the political arena, deeply comprehend the current political trends. The authors of the articles are the experts from Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Canada, and the United States.
On the basis of a wide array of national and foreign scientific sources, analysis of modern political realities, it is considered one of the important problems of political science – the problem of the political regime and democracy. The monograph is devoted to the life, scientific and socio-political activities of the outstanding Ukrainian ethnographer, literary critic, folklorist, academician Mykola Sumtsov (1854-1922). The inheritance of the scientist is seen in the context of socio-cultural identity of the Ukrainians, the study which was actually devoted to all scientific activities of the professor from Kharkov.

In the monograph, on the basis of the program documents analysis of Ukrainian political parties, scientific and journalistic heritage of the iconic figures of the Ukrainian national movement, other sources, the idea evolution of the national self-determination in the Ukrainian social and political thought is examined.
